Observe
Observe is self-hosted observability in one binary: web analytics, error tracking, APM and distributed tracing, logs, session replay, uptime monitoring, feature flags and experiments. Two processes (Observe plus the Nucleus database engine), one binary each. 91 MB idle on the reference 4-core host.
No cookies are set; visitor identity is derived and all data stays on your server. Whether that satisfies your jurisdiction's obligations is your compliance review to make, not a claim of ours.
What's inside
| Surface | Highlights |
|---|---|
| Analytics | Pageviews, visitors, sessions, referrers, UTM, funnels, retention cohorts, journeys, goals, real-time visitors |
| Error tracking | Automatic grouping, source-map support, full-text search, issue status, release health, breadcrumbs |
| APM / tracing | OTLP ingest for traces, metrics and logs; trace search with span-attribute filters; waterfall, flame graph, dependency map |
| Logs | Level and trace-id correlation, full-text search, pipelines (JSON parse, regex extract, mask, sample) |
| Session replay | Two recorders (structural keyframes and rrweb delta), privacy boundary at record and play time, click heatmaps |
| Monitoring | Uptime HTTP monitors, cron heartbeats, alerting with hysteresis and cooldowns |
| Product tools | Feature flags, A/B experiments with SRM checks, surveys, custom dashboards, cohorts |
| LLM observability | Token, cost and latency tracking for model calls, cost estimation for GPT / Claude / Gemini |
Three surfaces work together in one install: an AI query assistant on the SQL explorer (your LLM key, your cost, every call logged), incident-mode markers that overlay alert windows on every time-series chart, and scheduled SQL exports to any S3-compatible bucket.
Where to go next
- Install — Homebrew, Docker, or source
- Quick start — first event to first chart
- SDKs — trackers, browser and server libraries
- Configuration — environment variables, ingest, SSO
